Whenever a teacher identifies a student as having a learning difficulty in a particular area they refer the student to the school’s Student Support Team. The Student Support Team consists of the following personnel:
· Support Teacher Learning Difficulties (STLD)
· Guidance Officer
· Early Intervention Teacher (EIT)
· Students with Disabilities Teacher
· Classroom Teacher
· Principal and Deputy Principal
The Student Support Team considers all the information provided by the classroom teacher and will determine whether further diagnostic testing is required. This may take the form of:
· Diagnostic tests in literacy or numeracy administered by the STLD or the EIT
· Appraisement by STLD
· Formal assessment by the Guidance Officer (IQ test)
· Assessment by Speech Language Pathologist
· Observations by Advisory Teachers
After consultation with the teacher, parents and specialist teachers a number of support options may be recommended. Some of the support provided at this school includes:
· working with our Support Teacher Learning Difficulties ( STLD) on a weekly or daily basis
· working with our Early Intervention Teacher (Years 1&2) on weekly basis
· working with our Student With Disabilities Teacher.
· working with our visiting Speech Language Pathologist
· working with our Guidance Officer
· working with our ESL (English as a Second Language)Teacher
· working on a special program designed by one of the above specialists and supported by teacher aides
· included in the Support-a-Reader program
· included in the Support-a- Writer program
· included in the Support-a-Maths-Learner program
· extra teacher aide support in the classroom
· individual and small group tutoring as part of the ITAS program
